We are all unfinished.
"Come on friend, let's go again."
The cover for WIP is inspired by the Snellen eye chart, the standard tool for measuring visual acuity. Over the past four years, as I wrote the poems for this book, I slowly waved goodbye to all but the top line of the chart in my left eye and some areas of the chart for my right. But humans are amazing; over time, the brain learns to fill in some of the gaps, and we adapt.
Sight may dwindle, but vision can remain.
WIP is optimised for readers with sight loss. Printed in Lexend font, an accessible font specifically designed to reduce visual stress and enhance clarity, a 13-point font size or higher is used where possible. Black text on white paper is widely recommended as the most accessible combination for people with sight loss because it offers the highest possible contrast ratio (21:1).
In 2021, Joanna was diagnosed with Punctate Inner Choroidopathy, a rare inflammatory eye condition that can cause sight loss.

"Joanna Bennett wears her insides on her outsides. Her poetry gifts us fragments of womanhood, motherhood, aching love,
and the daily grind. I hope you fall as much in love with her as I did."
